The latest in the line up of National Bingo Platinum winners is a sixty four years old who does not want to be named, says that she couldn’t believe how much money she had won, she was in such shock that she had to go home and drink a few medicinal brandies and woke up with a sore head. The winner took home a massive ₤639 725 and this huge sum of money just doesn’t register. (more…)

Although this incident didn’t actually happen to a UK bingo player, I felt that it contained enough newsworthy material to comment on. The Green Police Department have logged an incident report after a man who won when playing bingo at Mr. Bingo, spilt the winnings with his girlfriend and she tried to use a $100 note to pay for some shopping she had done at the local K-Mart. When she tried to pay, the $100 bill was refused and she was told by the store that the bill was counterfeit. (more…)

The Harrogate bingo club in Skimpot Road, Lucky Numbers bingo club to be precise, was very recently under a demolition order. Developers already had a planning application in place to pull down the building and erect eight flats and a shop. However the application had received a number of objections and Mark Williams, the Planning Officer recommended that the building be saved as it had historic significance. This resulted in the earlier planning application being withdrawn. (more…)

Members of staff from the Mecca Bingo hall in Ellesmere Port are going to be going all out in their fundraising efforts for their nominated charity, Whizz Kids. In fact the are ready to climb every mountain for them and this is precisely what they are going to be doing, trekking up a mountain in Wales to raise the much needed funds. The Mecca team together with colleagues from Mecca bingo in Wednesbury Cross, are going to be climbing mount Snowdon. (more…)

The Rank group which operates the UK’s second largest bingo chain, Mecca Bingo has released a statement saying that a the VAT and Duties tribunal has accepted its application for a ₤36.3 million tax refund after it found that the game was unfairly taxed. According to the decision, European Union law is being violated by charging VAT on certain kinds of interval bingo, interval bingo is played between the main bingo sessions in UK clubs. The UK government is more than likely going to appeal this ruling though. (more…)

A long time ago in a far away land, before anyone had even thought of putting or playing bingo online (no this is not a fairy tale) there existed electronic bingo, in fact there were quite a few versions of the game. Bet you can’t guess where the far away land was? You got it, Japan. Video bingo was available in Japan as early as 1993. These forerunners of online bingo were created by the Nintendo giants more than ten years before online appeared in the UK, so that people could enjoy the pleasure of playing bingo in the comfort of their own homes.
