Although this incident didn’t actually happen to a UK bingo player, I felt that it contained enough newsworthy material to comment on. The Green Police Department have logged an incident report after a man who won when playing bingo at Mr. Bingo, spilt the winnings with his girlfriend and she tried to use a $100 note to pay for some shopping she had done at the local K-Mart. When she tried to pay, the $100 bill was refused and she was told by the store that the bill was counterfeit.
After they discovered the counterfeit note, the man handed the note over to the police; they said that there was no reason to believe that the counterfeit bill had originated at Mr. Bingo as it looked as though it had been in circulation for some time. The $100 bill was very worn but was a really good copy of the real thing. The counterfeit note has been handed over to the US Secret Service as apparently this is normal procedure when these bills are discovered. What I really wanted to know is did the man get a replacement $100 bill from Mr. Bingo? But they don’t say, so I suppose we will all be left wondering.
