Bingo for Breakthrough is held to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research. They have raised ₤2.7 million in the last five years and are hoping to break the ₤3 million mark this year. Michelle says that she is delighted to be involved and is encouraging everyone to get down to their local bingo club to get involved.

During the Bingo for Breakthrough week clubs will raise money by offering free bingo games and inviting members to make donations to this worthy cause. There will also be a whole host of fundraising activities including fancy dress competitions and raffles. Participating clubs will offer prizes of the Bingo for Breakthrough mascot and they will be selling pink dabbers at 75p each. All money from the sale of the pink bingo dabbers will go directly to the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity, and Gala online bingo will also be participating in this fund raising drive. I expect that a whole lot of other online bingo sites will also get involved, so we should be hearing something from them quite soon.

Now Gala online bingo has released some very impressive statistics. They are saying that they have paid out ₤1 billion in prize money to more than five million online winners in the last year. This is a mind boggling amount of money! It is unfortunate that this is all they are saying as it might have been nice to break these statistics down and have a more comprehensive news report, but I suppose we shall just have to take their word for it.

“Everyone’s a Winner” is still running at Gala online bingo, they ran this promotion throughout August and now in September have even increased the value of the pool money. This could certainly have cause a resultant increase in the amount of winners and the amounts being won.

The online bingo site also makes it very plain that they have one winner every ten seconds and this means more than 100 000 winners a week. Fortunately for Muriel, she did manage to have a great birthday and spend it at her most favorite place in the world, the Gala Bingo Club in Station Road Harrow. She is a great grandmother to six and said that she had a party with her children on the Saturday and it was the first time in twelve years that all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren has congregated in the same room together.

However the one of the biggest highlights of her birthday was not the telegram from the Queen, it was the party given to her, by her friends at the Gala Bingo Club. Muriel says that she has no secret to her long life, for an answer to that we would have to “ask the man upstairs”.  She maintains that being active and playing bingo helps a great deal, and she hates staying indoors. And just seven years ago she traveled to Los Angeles to attend her cousins Golden Wedding anniversary. Gala Bingo presented Muriel with 100 free days of bingo.

The woman and her sister play together once a week and she says that she was a bit numb when she realised how much money she had won. She also said that her sister was far more excited than she. Her husband was also very please when she told him. The woman has been a member at the Gala bingo club since it opened, she has two children and four grandchildren and has absolutely no idea what she is going to do with the money.

Well that was short and sweet, I guess that this bingo player was too stunned to actually say much about her great win. It is strange really most people react with excitement and yet others are too stunned for word. However it is that they react, I suppose it is pretty well known in bingo circles that it is great to win, however this is in the majority secondary to the entertainment and socializing aspect of the game.

Many bingo clubs, including uckingham, Mecca, Gala, Carlton and Castle bingo participate in the Bingo for Breakthrough activities. This support started in 2003 and has since raised ₤2.75 million for breast cancer causes, last year alone was a record year, raising ₤500 000, a fantastic achievement.

Bingo for Breakthrough has also, quite notably won the BIG Tick Award in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Last year, for the second year in succession, celebrities joined the campaign, they drew doodles of things that make them smile using bingo dabbers and these were subsequently sold on e-Bay, this also increased awareness and raised even more funds. Throughout the course of the year, we will keep you updated on the preparations for this very worthwhile fund raising week.

Life gets much sweeter when you visit a Gala Bingo Hall and get yourself signed up with a Nectar account and identification card. Just visit the lovely folks at reception and they will work up your account and give you a special Nectar Card right away.

The number you are given on your Nectar Card will be connected to your Gala membership number that already exists, so your Nectar points will be collecting as you play at Gala Bingo as well.

Now head out for your usual activities, and remember to flash that Nectar Card as you shop. You will gain various amounts of points for all the shopping you do, and then can spend them at the participating location of your choice. Bring your card along when you visit Beefeater, AA, eDF Energy and Brewers Fayre. You can even use it when you hire a car from Hertz, then again when you visit the BP station to fill it up.

Once you have earned enough points (minimum of 500), use them to visit LEGOLand, Blockbuster, Argos, or even the CDWOW website. You simply swipe the card as you are playing at Gala Bingo as well, and watch those points stack up.
